What Wikipedia is referring to is the purchase of links. If you pay for Google ads to promote your website or to drive traffic to your website is that a "paid inclusion?" If you pay to be in the Yahoo directory is that a "paid inclusion?" Google reminds me of parents who say to their child don't do what I do, do as I say! Obviously there are a different set of rules for Google.
But in all fairness it is easy to see that Google is trying to make the internet a level playing ground for everyone.
it has been said that Blackhat(BH) SEO is both good and bad. If you are a serious blogger or webmaster you will come across various posts dealing with Black Hat SEO. Not to delve into Blackhat SEO even to gain knowledge is to live in denial. The BH techniques of today are often the gray and white hat procedures of tomorrow. It's an essential truth; innovations often transpire inside the Blackhat community of SEOs. These methods are studied, adapted, and lastly received into white hat SEO.
The thing about blackhat seo is that most blackhatters are inventive and forward thinking. It has been said many times that you should be familiar with SEO in order to have a good understanding of how Google's algorithm is working. This is essential for two reasons:
1. Knowing Google's algorithm can help you analyze your competition and how you too can obtain the "edge" on Google.
2. You can find information and procedures that you can exercise to advance in the Google search engine.
We are all aware that knowledge is power. What many people do not appreciate is that the majority of Black hat techniques are not Blackhat at all! Blackhat is like a double edged sword. Let me explain further. A number of people have argued that Blackhat SEO is for the feeble. They go to say Black hatters are individuals you can't win the game and have got to resolve to dishonesty. Even if you don't choose to utilize what a number of people call BLACKHAT SEO to advance your website, it is a good thing to know what your competition is doing. That's only makes common sense.
There are those White Hat purists who go as far as claiming that purchasing old domains that are expired is Blackhat SEO. In a good business model buying old domains and reviving them makes perfect sense. The age of the domain is valuable in Google's algorithm so you have a head start on your competition. And what is the difference if you want to sell your domain to someone else? Going further, is Microsoft's Bing doing Blackhat by buying data and content from Yahoo? All this begs the question; who makes the rules on the Internet?

Fake news reports are often seen as Black Hat. From a marketing strategy they are seen as brilliant. This technique is done everyday by the media but it is never referred to as Blackhat! Really, people throw around the term Blackhat SEO so much it has little meaning. The Black Hat World of SEO is so much more than just hacking, rogue bots and so on.
In reality, hacking is not really viewed by many Black Hatters as Blackhat. In the BLACKHAT WORLD most SEO is predominantly centered on ways to advance a
website or how to make money online. And when you think about Google wants the same but dictates how you must go about it.
Google and White hat SEO people would have you believe that automating software to help you in posting on blogs for example is Blackhat. They are not in favor of any automated software devoted towards SEO. Granted allot of software and scripts in the Blackhat World has been made to exploit Google. But you just can't paint the entire BLACKHAT WORLD of SEO with one broad brush.
Back Links Gone Bad
The Quality of a Link is Everything
There are so many techniques you can use that can help your website ranking well in Google. And these methods are not from the Dark Side of the BLACKHAT WORLD. For example, if you go to any website that offers freelancing you will find scores of Blackhat people from all over the world.
They offer to submit your website to thousands of directories for pennies. They tell you that all of these submissions are completed by hand. You must read between the lines with claims like these. To add insult to injury they will go on to say that this task will be done in 24hrs and so on.
Now, if you are foolish enough to fall for this scam, be advised that a thousand back links to your website will raise a huge red flag for Google, especially if this is done in a short period of time. True, your website will increase in the SERPs however you will collapse hard coming down in an extremely quick time. And, when you take a good peek at your links and you will find out they are from a paid directory and your anchor text is non existent.
Now, if you do happen to find a trustworthy person to do this, who takes the time to locate quality back links for you and did this over a month, then I would call it White Hat. The intention is utilize programmed SEO software with moderation so your results seem to be organic or naturally produced. Don't get greedy or foolish.
Cheap back links are Bad Back Links
Here is one final example of automating software considered to be Black Hat. For example, a software for Twitter for scheduling and repeating tweets. Note that, automatically tweeting RSS feeds from yours or other blogs is great. However, your Twitter account must have a real person attending it who tweets manually. Again, moderation is the key to making it look organic and natural.
A contention made by some White Hatters who have heaps of money for Google ads and have no awareness of the extreme competition on the Internet today. They have said; "If your content is worth a damn you won't need to trick readers or bots with fake substance. I invested time into the content and usability of my site and it's returned a 350% jump in my traffic last year. I'm getting links you can't begin to fake or even buy. Make sites for people, not search engines." This is great stuff for your "arm chair SEO philosopher." Fact is that you are competing against numerous Blackhat SEO savvy people also who can have their site indexed in 3 days and have a position on the first page of Google in only 4 days! And the weird thing is most are not using Blackhat SEO to do this.

This technique will drive massive amounts of traffic to your website. If you want to compete these days on Internet and you want to be noticeable, you need have to know the cutting edge of SEO. You need to understand what up-to-the-minute and modern ways the BLACKHAT WORLD is doing in terms of SEO.

Linkwheel Power Black Hat or White Hat?

Backlinks are very important in SEO. These are your fundamentals in terms of boosting your page rank and visibility on SERPs.I don't recommend to buy backlinks from anywhere. It is always good to build your quality backlinks from HIGH PRs and authoritative sites.

I agree that blackhat is the easiest ways to optimize your website. But I dont recommend to use these method because you might get sandbox with Google once they traced your using blackhat. Its a NO!NO for me!
Most of these things will not result in getting sandboxed by google. Most will happen if you get a sudden rush of backlinks is the good ole google dance (which will rebalence itself out after a few weeks)
Reason Google cant sandbox for most of so called black hat seo methods is that we could do this to our competitors and get them sandboxed. And this is not possible and rightly so.
But i would not advise anyone to go to a link farm site and buy back links.
Either download some free article submission software or manually search for your niche and submit articles freely from there.

I've learned so much at BlackHat SEO's forums. Not really about being a 'Bad Boy', just leveraging all the ways we have to backlink to our sites effectively and far more efficiently -- and not just hope for the best. Frankly, most truly agressive Black methods are waaaayy too geeky for the average site owner to implement. Besides, gray and white SEO methods are what work for the long haul anyways. It's really simply about publishing and linking _smarter_ and to _more effective places_ than 90% of other webmasters.

My site was barely 1 week old and gave it a blast of 2800 profile backlinks in 2 weeks time. It worked but the difference wasn't that much in positions. At least it moved from 2nd page to 1st. Traffic increased

It is not the a "blackhat technique" that gets you top ranking it is the knowledge of how to rank and put that into action. There is so much to ranking well in Google. Using just blackhat techniques can often get you sandboxed by Google. In other words, getting too many backlinks to a website is a short period of time sends out a red flag. Same as too many followers at once in Twitter.
Great post, I myself seem to use these blackhat techniques without realising which makes me believe they couldnt possibly be blackhat at all. If they were so bad wouldnt they be set out in bold guidelines saying "Don't do this, don't do that"?
Buying backlinks are a waste of time and money. Why buy those backlinks when you can build your own quality backlinks at most high PR sites.
Great post, blackhat is interesting but I don't enjoy risking some of my websites. I like to build websites that will last. I do agree that black hatters are definitely the most innovative in general. Some black hat techniques are ok but I really hate mass spam type black hat stuff (scrapebox blog spam and others, forces me to shut off comments on some of my own blogs).
